Congratulations Delta Phi Alpha Inductees


On Tuesday, November 28, the Ohio University chapter of the German Honor Society Delta Phi Alpha held its annual induction event. Delta Phi Alpha members, guests, and  German faculty from the Modern Languages Department gathered over food and conversation to celebrate the new pledges’ academic success and witness their initiation. This year’s inductees are: Billy Buehl, Nathen Drexler, Jack Martin, Zach Schmitz, Brad Scheikert, and Eric Turner. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!

Keith Woodall’s Spring Study Away a Success

Spring semester 2016-17, Keith Woodall, Associate Lecturer, took 28 undergraduate students and teaching associate, Hannah Grace Morrison, to Toledo, Spain. In this language immersion program, the students lived with host families, with whom they had great experiences. Position Available

Online Curricular Designer and Lecturer (non-tenure track)

The Department of Modern Languages at Ohio University seeks a colleague to create and teach online courses in foreign languages; lead others in developing online courses; and help incorporate appropriate technologies into the full spectrum of classroom-based teaching. The position is a renewable, non-tenure track teaching position. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and teaching online language courses, be committed to working effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and will have creative ideas for curricular development. Start date: January 1, 2018 or August 16, 2018 dependent upon availability of candidate.

Responsibilities of the position include:
• Work with Ohio University Instructional Designers and the coordinators of each language to develop online course curricula and materials for elementary and intermediate language programs. (Courses are offered in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish)
• Prepare faculty to teach online courses.
• Work closely with language program coordinators and their faculty to promote the effective use of instructional technologies.
• Create and teach courses about Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL courses).

Ganeshan Awarded Humanities Research Fund

Dr. Ashwini Ganeshan

On October 19, 2017, Dr. Ashwini Ganeshan was awarded the Humanities Research Fund from the College of Arts & Sciences Professional Development Committee. Dr. Ganeshan will use the funding to present at the Hispanic Linguistics Symposium in Lubbock Texas, October 26-28, 2017.

Common and Uncommon Ground: Theater and Migration in Germany


Please join us on Thursday, September 28, 5:00pm, in Gordy Hall room 113 as Dr. Matthew Cornish, Assistant Professor of Theater History, as he discusses the relationship between theater, especially theater made by and for migrant communities, and the German national imaginary, while exploring new formalism and its discontents.





Graduate Teaching Certificate Funded

Dr. Gallego’s proposal for the continuation of the Graduate Teaching Certificate initiative has been approved by the College of Arts & Science. Her Faculty Learning Community “Professional Development of TAs: Workshop Series and Other Resources” has also been funded!
