Bem vindo à página do Português

The Portuguese language and culture program at Ohio University begins with intensive courses for speakers of other Latin-based languages. Students with at least a 3120 (conversation) level of Spanish, Italian or French are welcome to enroll in PORT 3110/5110. Others who have had some experience with Portuguese may also enroll in the first level of the language. Permission may be required to enter the class and interested students should contact Dr. Betsy Partyka (partyka@ohio.edu).

Students with more experience should enroll at either the PORT 3190/5190 or 4110/6110 level.

Brazilian Portuguese is taught in all of our classes, and the weekly conversation hour is led by our Brazilian teaching associates. The spring 2019 conversation hour will be held on Thursdays from 6–7 p.m. at the Front Room Coffeehouse in Baker University Center.

PORT classes meet for 3 hours a week and award 3 credits for both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Classes are taught through a communicative approach and concentrate on oral proficiency. All students will take an oral proficiency interview at the end of the first year to test their level. An outside examiner will do these evaluations.

We also offer an exciting 5-week summer study abroad program in Brazil that offers courses at all levels. Graduate students on scholarship may receive a tuition waiver to participate in this program.
